ABOUT HEADSHOTS

I know this may seem elementary to some of you headshot Aficionado's, but isn't it always good to simplify things?

In the simplest of terms, a headshot is a picture of a person, used as a calling card.  Primarily used for actors and models, headshots can also be used for business professionals (business cards that put a face with the name) as well as musicians/groups, artists, and pretty much anyone who is selling a service.  However, nowadays, a great headshot should be more than just a pretty picture.  Headshots should be an accurate expression of who you are as a person.

Generally speaking, actors headshots turn out the best in an outdoor setting with natural light.  However, studio shots with natural lighting are not uncommon for both modeling comp cards and actor headshots.  As for business cards not related to acting or modeling, a studio shot in business attire is the norm. These days, business cards with a headshot are becoming more common, for they help to personalize business contacts.

As for actors and models, headshots are the lifeline for a consistently successful career.  They can be the difference in getting an agent or not, and they can do more damage than good.  Keeping your headshots up-to-date, representing the real you, is where the power of a great headshot comes into action.
